Leshan Giant Buddha

It was built during the time of Tang Dynasty it is carved out of the cliff face & the statue of Maitreya is in sitting condition, it make the place most famous spot in the city Buddha is located to the east of Leshan city, Sichuan Province at the confluence of three rivers, namely Mini River, Qingyi River & Dadu river which attracts the tourists the construction was started around 713, led by a Chinese monk named Haitong. The thought behind it was that the Buddha would calm the turbulent water that helped the shipping vessels travelling down the river, his main concern was for the safety of the long suffering people it is about 70 meters high & about 8.3 meter long fingers & 9 mtrs. wide instep that has big enough for one hundred people to sit. The charm of statue lies not only in its size but in architectural too, the other architectural highlight is the drainage system this system is made of some hidden gutters & channels on the head & arm,
it includes drainage pipes into various places on body when it was carved a big thirteen wooden structure, gold plated to protect it from rain & sunshine. This structure was corrupted by Mongols during the wars at the end of Yuan Dynasty.
